FAQ's
Why AIM4HE?
AI is increasingly shaping key university processes throughout the entire student lifecycle, from the very first search for a study programme to alumni management. According to FORCE AI research, higher education institutions (HEIs) need qualified staff to responsibly design and manage effective AI integration strategies. These professionals should also be able to promote responsible AI use among HEI staff, foster a positive mindset towards AI, and collaborate effectively with relevant stakeholders.
But where and how can these professionals be trained? The transnational FORCE AI project team recognised this qualification gap and developed the first targeted training AIM4HE, which is now ready to be piloted!
What is the goal of the AIM4HE training programme?
The training programme is designed to equip professionals with the hands-on knowledge, skills and competencies required to successfully operate as AI Manager for HE. Alongside the strategic, ethical, and technical competencies needed to foster the responsible integration of AI in academic institutions, the AIM4HE programme also encourages participants to adopt a sustainability mindset.
How is the AIM4HE training programme structured?
The AIM4HE training programme is designed as a microcredential, a short training provision leading to a recognised certificate. It consists of six self-contained courses, each focusing on a specific competence area:
- AI Literacy (with focus on HEI needs)
- Strategic Leadership in AI Governance
- Innovation and Change Management
- Ethics, Integrity and Social Responsibility
- Communication and Collaboration for AI Transformation
- Capacity Building.
Together, these courses build a comprehensive learning experience and qualify you as an AI Manager for Higher Education (AIM4HE).
Who should join the AIM4HE training programme?
The AIM4HE training targets professionals who are already working in, or planning to work in, AI management roles at higher education institutions, or who wish to be part of an AI management team within an HEI. This includes, for example:
- Higher education administrative and academic staff
- Digital transformation leaders
- IT and data governance professionals.
How much time should I invest in the AIM4HE training?
The estimated workload of the entire AIM4HE training is 6 ECTS, corresponding to approximately 150 hours. Each course equals 1 ECTS (approx. 25 hours).
With around five hours per week over six months, you can gradually complete the full microcredential while flexibly adapting your learning to individual work rhythms and peak workloads.
How will the AIM4HE training programme be delivered?
The AIM4HE training will be delivered fully online via Moodle, with a strong focus on asynchronous self-study. In addition, up to two optional virtual live sessions per course will be offered by the course facilitators, allowing you to reflect on your learning outcomes and exchange with peers.
What is the language of the training?
All training content and instructions will be provided in English.
What are the training costs?
The AIM4HE training is offered as a pilot programme and is therefore free of charge.
What is the training duration?
The AIM4HE training will start on April 6 and end on September 30, 2026 (6 months).
How will my performance be assessed?
At the end of the training, you will be invited to develop and submit a comprehensive, evidence-based AI Management Plan for a real (your own) or hypothetical university. It will demonstrate your ability to integrate AI literacy, strategy, innovation, ethics, communication, and capacity-building into one coherent institutional framework.
What type of a certificate will I receive upon completing the AIM4HE training?
Upon completing the entire AIM4HE training, you will receive a microcredential certificate issued by the University of Twente (Enschede, the Netherlands), which is recognisable across the European higher education area.
In addition, you will receive digital badges for each individual course completed.
What benefits can I gain through this training and microcredential?
First, you will strengthen your professional profile and enhance your employability. Second, you will become part of a transnational learner–instructor community and expand your professional network. Third, you will be among the first to pilot this unique training and actively contribute feedback and suggestions for further improvement.
